Confessions of a Professional Matchmaker

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Terri Arnold Don’t make these mistakes when searching for love online! “I spent my life searching for the perfect woman. I finally found her but alas, she was searching for the perfect man.” Anonymous I was a professional matchmaker for several years - trying to help singles meet others with whom they shared common interests and complementary personality traits. I met with my clients in person and they were screened to ascertain their real names, addresses, education, marital status. Most importantly, I tried to help them determine the type of person they were really seeking and that’s where most of the problems arose. Even though my clients verbalized that they were happy to be matched based upon compatibility, this was not true! The major problems I encountered were: 1) A number of clients were seeking others mainly based on appearance. I would show each new client photos of existing clients based on their characteristics as well as their appearance. Unattractive people sometimes became offended when I matched them with their physical counterparts. A dowdy sixtyish woman asked me, “Is that what you think of me?” when I attempted to match her with men in her age and looks category. Many clients seemed to be totally unaware of how they looked to others and wanted matches that were highly inappropriate. With these people, compatibility had no bearing on their matches. They wanted the best looking people in my book! 2) Some clients refused to compromise - even when matched with someone they liked! I matched two extremely overweight people who liked each other immediately and went out on several dates. Before their last meeting for a Sunday movie date, the woman asked to meet at 7:00 pm instead of the 5:30 show. The man became annoyed, broke the date, and immediately ended their budding relationship. He, who was a part-time telemarketer, told me he needed time on Sunday evenings “to get ready for his work on Monday.” Because she needed to reschedule their date, he was totally turned off to her regardless of his prior interest and their compatibility. 3) Others had a Wish List for their Perfect Person and expected me to find the person on that list for them. One divorced man in his late 30’s expressed a desire for a woman who had a specific type of nose. (Really!) A never-married woman in her early 30’s with pale blonde hair and very light skin wanted a man with very, very dark skin (but not an African-American), who earned at minimum $75,000 per year, was not in Sales, had never been married and had no children. I had twelve men who matched her description in my data base but she found something wrong with each one and refused to go out with any of them. She then complained about my service and was upset because she ‘had not had even one date’. AARRGGHH!!! An Indian medical student saw her photo and was instantly smitten. They had many things in common and each was what the other was seeking. He was very excited about meeting her; however, before they met, he wanted a guarantee of a successful relationship which I of course could not give him. They never met and as far as I know, both are still single and searching….. My advice: Don’t shoot yourself in the foot! If you are meeting a lot of people and just can’t seem to connect, ask yourself if you really want a relationship. Are you ready and willing to be close with another person? If you constantly find fault with others, ask yourself these questions and be a bit more tolerant. Don’t expect to find your perfect person because he or she does not exist. Be happy if you find Ms. or Mr. Almost-Perfect. Good luck! About The Author Terri Arnold (Spicy Grandma) has an MS in Counseling and has been a Psychotherapist for over twenty years. The Need For Insuring Mobile Phones

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Asre_Decosta]Asre Decosta A mobile phone enables us to effectively communicate with people, even when we are on the move. However, the latest models of mobile phones are more than just phones; they can be used for a whole lot more apart from their traditional use of connecting us with our friends and family. The advanced features of many of these handsets have to be seen to be believed. For instance, the third-generation (3g) mobile phones can be used for video calling, video conferencing and Internet access. Other innovative handsets come with advanced imaging capabilities; still others have in-built music players and FM radios. Sometimes all these features are available in one handset. Thus, the fact cannot be denied that some of the best mobile phones are now available to take care of changing needs and requirements of mobile phone users. And like all things that are valuable, our mobile phones also require insurance cover to protect them from several untoward incidents such as theft, accidental damage, water damage, fraudulent calls, loss of handsets, etc. Mobile phone insurance plans are quite important and more so in the context of rising theft of mobile phones in the UK. As a matter of fact, one handset gets stolen in the UK, in every twelve seconds! A mobile phone user can easily avail of the most affordable and low cost mobile phone insurance plans in the UK; these plans cover accidental damage, loss as well as theft of mobile phone handsets. Another point needs to be mentioned in this context. Many people in the UK purchase contract mobile phones. They avail of great offers on the latest mobile phones; in many instances, free mobile phones are an integral part of such offers. In case the handset is lost or stolen, the owner has to replace to same to cover the costs of the service providers or retailers. If, on the other hand, the mobile phone handset is insured, then they can leave all worries of reimbursing the costs of the handsets. Thus, all said and done, insurance of mobile phones is quite important to safeguard the interests of phone users in the UK, as well as in other parts of the world. Acrylic Craft Paints

Monday, January 28th, 2008

By Debbie Jensen Acrylic paints are so nice to work with. From easy clean-up to an array of brilliant colors―who could ask for more? In working with acrylics, I’ve noticed a few aspects about this water based paint that I’d like to pass on. Most of my art students peers preferred working with acrylic paints as I do, mostly due the affordability of it. I have to say, art professors encouraged the use of it too. In looking back, I’m wondering if professors liked acrylics due to the easy clean-up. Typically, art classrooms are not the cleanest classrooms on campus anyway; and if most students used oils instead, I can’t imagine what the classrooms and sinks would have looked liked! One tip I learned in school had to do with what acrylic paint is actually made of. Acrylic paints are colored liquid plastics (even though some acrylic paints are flat and others are high-gloss). Perhaps this is why acrylic paint is considered to be craft paint. Since it is plastic, acrylics dry quickly which is what most of us want. But, to slow down the drying-out process on your paint palette, put a couple of damp paper towels over it and squirt the paint directly on top of it. Surprisingly, the paint hardly spreads out and absorbs. Unfinished, dry acrylic paints are quick to scratch prior to applying the final finishing touches (sealer paint). When acrylics are applied to tinware, scratches are more susceptible than usual. Even if you are painting on canvas, expect to varnish your paintings upon completion. You can spray on a water base varnish or brush on a water base antique glaze to seal the acrylic paint. Acrylic paints are not only fun to work with, but most assuredly, the results are consistent and durable for both indoor and outdoor use. Online Dating Safety Tips

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Maria Sundar Theres thrill, excitement, and nervousness when meeting for the first time someone you met over the Net. But you must exercise caution when meeting someone you barely know. Below are some tips to guide you safely when dating. 1. Make arrangements to meet at a specific location, but do not let the person pick you up from your house. 2. You should meet in places where there are many people so you can ask for help if your date gives you trouble. Public places such as malls or daytime parks are good places to begin with. If it is possible, you could go double or group date. 3. When you are eating in a restaurant or caf, go Dutch. Pay half of the bill. In that way, you wont feel under any obligation to continue the relationship if you don’t like the person. 4. If possible, avoid drinking alcohol while on a date. Alcohol could affect your judgment and lessen inhibitions. If you are drinking, keep the drink in sight all the time. Do not get too drunk. You might not know or remember what happened later on. 5. If you have a car, use it. Make sure the gas tank is full. 6. Assuming that your date is safe just because they claim to be religious is wrong. For all you know, they could have a hidden, more unfavourable side. 7. Do not let any first-time date know where your house is. Only assess after the second date if you should let them know where you live. 8. At night, avoid going to secluded, dark areas like parks or dimly lit places. 9. Listen to what your gut says. If there is something that does not feel right, then most likely, it is not. Leave immediately if you feel something isnt quite right. 10. Tell someone whom you are with and where you will be going. You might also want to arrange a time schedule where someone could call you later and check up on you. You could also plan to meet some friends after the date. 11. Do not give your home contact number. If you really have to give contact information, give your mobile phone number. 12. Stay alert. Having fun the whole time does not mean you should let your guard down. Be sure you have a cell phone with you. From Breakup To Bliss - The Moth and the Flame

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Randy Hurlburt The Struggle for Closeness and Safety Laurie and Mel (not their real names) recently passed the 3 year milestone in their relationship. They love each other, but being two different people it is sometimes a struggle to understand and relate to each other. Because their struggle is similar to many others, I want to share it with you. Throughout the course of Laurie and Mels relationship they have had the same tug-of-war. It is a recurring theme. Each year their relationship gets better, but they have their setbacks and their battles as well. What Mel wants most is emotional closeness: talking, cuddling, sex. Laurie has been hurt by prior relationships and mainly wants safety. She doesnt want to be hurt again, so she keeps her distance - not all the time, of course, but more than Mel would like. My friend and mentor Dr. Harold Bessell taught me about this phenomenon. He calls it the moth and the flame. The moth is attracted to the flame, but if it gets too close it will get burned, so it backs away. Closer-farther-closer-farther: it is a circling dance of love/fear. People are the same way. They want the closeness of a love relationship, but they have been burned before so they only give part of themselves. If they give too much, they expect to be hurt again (and often are). How do Mel and Laurie deal with this? He accepts her degree of distance as long as she gradually moves closer. She accepts his desire for closeness as long as he respects her current degree of distance. He is the gravity, she is the centrifugal force. Why do they bother with these differences and difficulties? The answer is simple: there is a very high level of romantic attraction. In addition, Mel is very mature emotionally, which helps him to deal with the situation (though he also experiences the moth and flame pressures). In prior articles we have discussed the fact that romantic chemistry and emotional maturity are the key ingredients in any love relationship, and that these come in degrees, and that they are usually unbalanced. In the case of Mel and Laurie, heres what we have: Mels Chemistry for Laurie: 90% Lauries Chemistry for Mel: 90% Mels Emotional Maturity: 80% Lauries Emotional Maturity: 60% Although Mels maturity at 80% helps to hold the relationship together, it is the high chemistry (90%) that causes the moth and flame phenomenon. Chemistry is both the source of magnetic attraction and the cause of fear. Neither Mel nor Laurie is immune to this two-edged sword. Mel is able to handle it better, mainly by moving very slowly. Laurie, being less mature, tends to be impulsive, and then runs for cover. While Mel and Lauries relationship is not perfect, it has the potential to be outstanding if they work at it: emotional maturity is a learned skill, so it can increase. This relationship also has the potential to fail if they ever give up the struggle. Many people do give up just at the point of success, and thats a shame. Is it worth the struggle? Some would say No, Mel should find someone with less fear. But Mel knows that 60% is normal adult maturity and finding the same level of romantic chemistry that he feels with Laurie, plus higher emotional maturity, is not easy to do. Therefore he continues to enjoy what they have, works to make it better, and sees his glass as 60% full, not 40% empty. Meanwhile the moth continues circling the flame, ever closer, inch by scary inch, until hopefully one day they will go up in smoke together. It is the gradual letting down of barriers, letting another person inside ones walls, that ultimately leads to fulfillment in a high chemistry love relationship. It is not easy, but it is worth it. On the edge of a breakup? Want more love (and better sex)? Three simple steps to turn your relationship around (or find a new one)! Randy Hurlburt is an internationally acclaimed relationship coach who shows singles, and couples on the brink, how to find and create exciting and successful relationships. Is Money A Necessity?

Friday, January 25th, 2008

By Christina Hue Have we ask ourselves this question; how much money does one need? Money is always and has been a big deal in our society. It buys us what we need and what we want. It defines who we are. Most teenagers depend primarily on their parents for support in terms of their house, food and even clothes. No matter where your money comes from, its a necessity need to get through the day. Its easy to overlook how much you spend during an ordinary day on things you dont even think about a can of coke, bus fare, and food. Little things add up; if you think about it you might find that you spend more than you realize. We the teenagers occasionally think about what it would be like to move out of Mom & Dad house and get a place of our own. Wouldnt it be great! A little apartment somewhere far from your parents place with nobody tell us what to do, to clean up our room and what time we need to be home and best of all to what we want. Maybe life on our own is fantastic but it would be super expensive. What are the expenses we will incur if we support ourselves? RENT - Take a look at the classified advertisement in the newspaper and find the section that lists properties (house & apartment) for rent. You will read something such as 2R 1 bath apt fully furnished for rent. Rental $700. Sounds cool, right. You can look for somewhere cheaper and but the place might not be so desirable. FURNITURE - Assuming you wouldnt want to rent with a fully furnished apartment. Youll need a furniture. Like a sofa, couple of chairs, a coffee table and maybe a TV. Of course you need a bed. All this will cost a thousand dollars. Fortunately there are a lot of used shops so you can get everything for maybe a Thousand. PHONE & CABLE TV Unless you want to walk to a pay phone, you need a telephone or a handphone. Cable TV is great but expensive. Figure about $50 a month for a basic package plus $100 to install it. Electricity and water- Usually this is not included in the rent, we need to add this cost of living. OTHER STUFF Sheets and blankets for the bed, towels, a couple of lamps, dishes to eat from, silverware, pots and pans, some glasses, toilet paper, toothpaste you need a lot of stuff and it will cost money. These are only some of the cost if you live on your own. There are other important to think about like food, clothing, entertainment, etc. Now, think about it and ask ourselves does it cost us a lot if we live on our own? Hymns and Tantra

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

By Rajendra Thakur Hymens and mantra tundra. Hymens are integral part of ancient people. It has been said that in ancient time some intelligent people and well know people were using some few words and some sentences and by that they were able to convince people. By experiencing such things people were started calling these words or centuries as hymens. Specifically, if you see the ancient literature of Tibet or India, you will find that, these texts are full of hymens. Lets take very ancient literature of Vedas, the first literature in the world of human being developed by group of people for centuries, in that text the by them arrangement and timing of words are so arranged that when we pronounce the text you will find that some sort of vibratiasal changes are occurring around as and if measured by scientific instruments like oscilloscope or mugger or vibrato meter some wavelength and frequency charge we found. If the same text is read again and again at the same place there will be no doubt that the expected changes you will find. Against this, in Tibetian hymens the creations of sunrounding is more important. Which is celled tantra. So mantra and tantra. What is hymens? Hymens, you will never find any proper explanation or description any where in the world other than here. If you are not satisfied with the below text you can feed back me. Hymens, the divine text, called mantra. Some people say it came from the mouth of good and due to that can do anything with the specific mantra (hymens) for that. But do you think the god. Like supreme power need mantras to run the show? Do you think god needs mantras to drive the world and mature? No surely not, if we refer one ancient text called Narvnth and you will find that the first nath, means a the great personality who command the world and he can do whatever he wish. The first nath culled machhindra nath, urged god to give him blessing for composing hymens for normal people. By the blessing of god the first nath machhindra nath composed l000s of hymes, but now days only few are available and believe me. Today also they are effective and having ability to do anything. The composed set at hymens (mantras) is called as shabari mantras I own some of them.So exactly what is mantra and how he composed. If you see the blessing machhiranath asked from god was ability to compose and to write. That means those are nothing but poems with sacred text. And the main thing is that it must be read in thythems. Now what is mean by seared text. This is nothing but tested words for sound rhythes and vibration generating with sound waves. So what is important here to get effect of the manta? The composition of mantras are done using sound waves effect, rhythes of words used and pronounces of each and very letter and keep in mind that the composer normally taste the proper pronounce, rhythems and toning of the mantras. So when you get such mantras to get the proper effect you should read in the exactly some way. That is why the mantras are normally passed by mouth to mouth. Type of mantras. There are some different types of mantras like - shabari mantras - Vedic mantras - Brahmin mantras Tibetian mantras. And many more Sanskrit and difficult Vedic mantras are in pronounce in the same way as it should be. Brahmin mantas developed letter were kept away from normal people so that the particular community. Tibetan mantras need to much physical preparation and creation at soundings could tantra. Due to this normal people stayed away from them. Now why those shabari mantras are more popular than any other the reason is that, the creator or composer of shabari mantras themselves percale those mantras for the normal people usage. And main thing is that the composed those mantras in normal or general peoples language. If I say in spiritual language, the corpuses of these mantras has get assurance from all the respective spiritual things and mature. Nowadays in the era of modern science still some spiritual personalities are composing the mantras in simple form and giving to their disciples for their betterment. Some people do not believer in mantras. But the believer can tell their experience of these hymens or mantras. If you ask me, I am also from the believer past of the world and I am having many rich experience of some good hymens as mantras from my collection. http://www.rajendrathakur.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Rajendra_Thakur http://EzineArticles.com/?Hymns-and-Tantra&id=450573 cheap say viagra wordpress cheap genaric viagra kamagra buy sildenafil citrate do you need a prescription for viagra

How To Lose Weight By Running

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By Gray Rollins Do you need to lose weight and get in shape? Well, running is one of the most ideal activities for that purpose. First of all, it is very hard to get that kind of intense workout doing things such as running or low impact aerobics. In many ways, running is an ideal activity because even if you can get a good workout doing something else, it is a lot easier to keep on creating a challenging workout with running.Set Weight Loss Goals Before you set out to create a running plan for weight loss, the first thing you should do is decide what you want to accomplish. Determine how much weight you want to lose and how quickly you want to lose it. This will affect how often you will run and how long each running session will be. The faster, further, and longer you go, the more weight you will lose. Create a Weight Loss Plan The next thing to do is to create a running weight loss plan based on your goals. The plan should include your route, how long the route will take, and how long you want to stick with that particular route. If you want to run three or four times a week, a course of around three or four miles should be adequate. Eat for Weight Loss You may realize that no that you are running more, your appetite has increased. That is your bodys way of telling you that you need more nutrients in your diet. It is important to eat when you get hungry, otherwise it will harm your metabolism. The important thing to remember is to make good food choices and to not overeat. As long as you are eating a little less than what you need, it will not hurt your metabolism. In fact, you will begin to lose weight because your body will use your extra fat as fuel. Keep it Challenging One thing about running is that it is very easy to adapt to your current plan. That is why it is important to keep the workout challenging. One way to do this is to change your route after a few weeks by either lengthening it or choosing something else. Another good way to make your running challenging is to do intervals. Interval training is when you alternate running fast with jogging. You can increase the fast running intervals each time you feel your body begin to adapt. — It is not only possible to lose weight running, but running makes it much easier. Just remember to keep your route challenging and to make sure you eat nutritiously. Gray Rollins is a featured writer for TheRunnersGuide.com - a site for runners by runners. Why Is It So Difficult To Lose Weight After 30?

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

By Dov Oshri Have you tried to lose weight after 30? Wasnt that more difficult than ever before? Guess what? Its even more difficult after 40! Have you ever wondered why your body reacts differently to the same regimes you apply in different stages of your life? People that have never had a weight problem get flabbier after 30 without clear explanation. They start exercising and they dont see any improvement. They eat less, and they still dont achieve any significant change. What they dont take into consideration is the aging impact on their body. Aging is a Reason for Gaining Weight and the Obstacle to Losing WeightThere are more than 20 theories about aging but the most researched one is the Free Radicals theory. Free radicals are atoms or molecules in which at least one electron is unpaired causing an instability (a stable atom contains a balance of paired electrons which encircle the nucleus). This instability causes the electrons to be very reactive they bond easily with healthy molecules and damage them. According to the free radicals theory, this damage is what causes you to age and to become vulnerable to certain diseases. The most common free radical is an oxygen radical, which occurs in the mitochondria when an unpaired electron interacts with oxygen. Mitochondria are your cellular power plants, the tiny structures in your cells that provide energy in the chemical form of ATP. This is your fuel for all your life functions. It helps your heart to pump and your lungs to distribute oxygen when you breathe. When free radicals are formed in the mitochondria, they reduce the power of your cellular power plants to produce energy efficiently. You are not running out of energy because youre aging. You are aging because you are running out of energy. Free radicals gradually shut down your power as if you are slowly turning off a light dimmer. Free Radicals and Energy Reduction are the Roots of Most Aging Problems Without energy your metabolic rate drops causing you to accumulate more body fat. You are losing muscle mass, bone mass, facial collagen and you are tired even when you have over-slept. Energy reduction at the cellular level also decreases the hormone secretion in your glands. The most abundant hormone in the body is DHEA. It is known as the mother of all hormones because it is involved in manufacturing of other hormones, especially the sexual hormones estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. DHEA peeks at the age of 20 but afterwards declines sharply so at age 45 you have 50% of your high peek DHEA, and at the age of 65 you have only 10-20% of what you had at age 20. As the mother of all hormones DHEA represents a decline in other hormones as Human Growth Hormone, (HGH), Testosterone (in men), estrogen and progesterone (in women). Studies show that as lower your hormone level is, as higher your tendency to accumulate fat. Weight gain after 30 is a result of a vicious cycle of aging. Aggressive free-radicals decrease energy production which decreases hormone level and your metabolic rate to levels that most diets cannot help. Anti-Aging Can Support Weight Loss by Neutralizing Free-RadicalsThe most common way to fight free radicals is by increasing significantly antioxidants in your body. Your body produces antioxidants naturally or it gets it from food like fruit and vegetables. Antioxidants are form of enzymes that attack free radicals by attaching to the unpaired electron and neutralize it. There are 2 kinds of antioxidants: The first type patrols the body, blocking the formation of free radicals. The second type disarms the already existing free radical before they bind with healthy molecules. Studies show that todays fruit and vegetables are not rich in antioxidants as few decades ago. It is impossible to get the recommended level without supplements as multi-vitamin, vitamin C, and vitamin E in the right dosages. But this by itself doesnt make the difference. No one lose weight just by taking antioxidants. Anti-Aging Can Support Weight Loss by Boosting Energy in Your Cells You can increase your cells energy if you exercise regularly and supplement your food with energizers. Energizers are vitamins and minerals that increase the energy production in your cells. Well studied energizers are Lipoic Acid, Chromium Picolinate, Coenzyme Q-10, and others. Cardio training is the best exercise to boost your cellular energy. Cardio training is what you may know as aerobic exercise like jogging, cycling, rowing or other activities that ramp your heart rate. Anti-Aging Can Support Weight Loss by Increasing Hormone Level and Accelerating Metabolic Rate An expensive and still questionable way to increase your hormones is Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). Hormone replacement therapy must be recommended and supervised by a doctor. But criticizers recommend staying away and not messing with the side effect risks of hormones. You can boost your hormone level significantly without a doctor and for free if you engage in resistance training like free weights, weight machines, bands, cables or even body weight. Studies show without a doubt that resistance training stimulates secretion of HGH and testosterone. But thats not all. Resistance training has many other benefits. It helps to gain muscle and reverses the aging damage of losing muscle. The more muscles you have, the more fat you burn because mussel growth accelerate you metabolic rate. Aging is Not an Obstacle Anymore to Weight Loss You reverse your aging damages backward and slow your aging forward when you burn fat and gain muscle. You can accelerate this process by reducing free-radicals and increase energy production using supplements. But there is no way to achieve it without special exercises that boost hormone level and nutrition that decreases blood sugar. Conducting Pre-Employment Reference Inquiries and Background Investigations

Monday, January 21st, 2008

By L Scott Harrell Reference and background inquiries allow an employer to verify information provided by the applicant. Companies who make proper and judicious use of the information gathered as a result of a thorough background investigation typically reduce exposure to employee fraud, theft, embezzlement, turnover, unqualified employees, negligent hiring claims and violence in the workplace. The following are the most important aspects that makeup a background investigation. Additionally, how the information can be used to significantly reduce employee difficulties and employment litigation is also discussed: EMPLOYER REFERENCES- Checking past employers is used primarily to verify information provided by the applicant on resumes and applications such as dates of employment, job title, compensation, reasons for separation, and re-hire status. With even a small amount of information provided by a past or current employer, you may be able to gauge an applicants skill, ability and honesty or perhaps areas such as attendance problems, violent behavior, and manageability. Required element in the defense of negligent hiring claims (regardless of whether or not the reference shares information). EDUCATION VERIFICATION- An important integrity check. Surveys suggest that as many as 1 in 3 resumes and applications contain inaccurate education assertions and that more than 500,000 Americans have bought their academic degrees. This area contains the second highest rate of inaccuracy, behind salary. This check verifies education commiserate with position requirements. This is one of the easiest checks to pursue. This may include industry specific certifications and other non-degree-oriented training. PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REFERENCES- Similar to screening employer references and great for gaining an insight into some personality traits of the applicant. Addresses of friends and family that are in other states, or are otherwise a great distance away, may also indicate that the candidate had lived in that area. This is important regarding criminal record checks. DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLE REPORTS- May verify the type, status, validity, and restrictions of the applicants drivers license. Can also be used to verify information provided by the candidate such as current address, date of birth and license endorsements. Essential if the applicant will drive on company time or use company vehicles. May indicate a history of substance abuse. Required element in the defense of negligent hiring claims. SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER TRACE- A specialized report that may indicate a social security numbers validity or uncover aliases and other people using the same number. Generally includes a candidates current and previously reported addresses for comparison to an application. Previous addresses should be used in the criminal history check. There are many more sources for background and reference investigations than have been included here; a licensed private investigation agency specializing in pre-employment investigations may be able to help you identify and obtain any additional needs. As in all aspects of the hiring process, federal and state laws may govern how you use or share information obtained while conducting these and other checks; always maintain documentation generated as a result of these reports. Furthermore, all positions do not require every check or screening process included; for example, a waiters position in a restaurant may not warrant the expense of a credit check, motor vehicle report or psychological profile testing. Some Important Considerations: All employers should seriously consider a comprehensive drug-screening program. Any time a state or federal license is required for the position, a license verification check must be completed. Background investigations for jobs requiring access to cash, financial records, and valuable merchandise (jewelry, weapons, electronics, etc.) should include a pre-employment credit check, with check-ups performed semi-annually. Department of Motor Vehicle Records should be checked semi-annually. Criminal Background checks should be completed once a year. Additional investigation components should be verified when an employee is promoted. There are many other checks and resources available to the public that can be used to uncover possible sources of fraud, theft, and dishonesty. The components listed above are the most common elements of a background investigation and are not meant to be an exhaustive study. The services of a competent investigations company should be sought to discuss additional options. L.
