Forget About All The New Toys On The Market Buy The Child On Your List A Rocking Horse

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

By Gregg Hall Enigmatic and nostalgic, the rocking horse can open magical doors for children and adults alike. Adults sit back, watching children play, and remember the special times they had on their own horse. Rocking horses will forever symbolize childhood and its fantastic memories. Despite the gizmo like toys for children and modern decor for the home, a rocking horse still tops the list of toys to give and display. Historically, carved rocking horses have existed since the medieval era. The sculptured rocking horse made its debut in New England in the 19th century. At this point carved rocking horses gained appreciation. They continued to gain widespread popularity throughout the century. Craftsmen added real horsehair manes and tales to make the horse appear rational. Though made of wood, many offered a comfortable ride thanks to added padding. The horses received cloth saddles and reins to authenticate them as horses. Since the American Civil War, the horse’s appearance has changed, becoming more antique looking. Unlike before the war, assembly line manufacturers began mass producing the rocking horses. Today the rocking horse has become much more diversified. Experimental versions have popped up like with other vintage toys. Colors, design, materials, and purpose vary from the conventional horse, with the colors stretching from the antique white to gaudy and bright colors. Design has also become broader, with more than the horse put on the curved rails. Designers use other rocking animals to appeal to the wide audience of consumers. Materials have varied as well, with fabric, leather, plastic, the finest hardwood, and the likes making up the design. Designers have begun to focus on more than just wood and a real horse mane in the form of the rocking horse. Finally, the purpose of the rocking horse has grown. Not just limited to fun and a thrill ride, the rocking horse has become an educational tool, used to teach children essentials like toilet etiquette. Thanks to the rocking horse toilet, children can now learn to do their business while riding a horse. Apparently the toy teaches children proper ways of using a toilet. Realistic looking rocking horses and accessories still exist, like saddles, bridles and tail. Online manufacturers specialize in these toys, but you must make sure that you find a reputable dealer. Purchase the horses in good condition and with warranties so you can return them should they arrive defective. Unique rocking horses also abound thanks to creative manufacturers. For a mere $200 you can come home with a custom made horse. However, the best ones can cost up to $3500. These one of a kind toys have lasted centuries for a reason. So the next time you’re scratching your noggin in search of a great toy for your grandkid, consider the timeless and priceless rocking horse. Gregg Hall is an author living in Navarre Florida. Amish Furniture for Kids Summer Projects

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

By John Stover Summer is coming, and the kids will soon be out of school. Moms and dads everywhere will soon here I am board; I dont have anything to do. Give them a lesson and a project that will teach them a skill, and provide them a physical memory of time spent with mom and dad or one another. My friend and his wife have four children from four to twelve. While they were visiting, my web site (www.stoveramishfurniture.com), they saw a few small piece of unfinished Amish Furniture. Now it would have been just as easy to pay a little extra and have the pieces finished, but they thought Why not let the kids do it? So as a summer project for the kids, they bought four different pieces of Amish Furniture. They then set aside a space in the garage for the projects. Each child was given a role in the finishing. The youngest two where thought to sand a clean each piece. The oldest two went to the library and the hardware store to find books on finishing the projects. They were all given a schedule and a planned completion time. The kids were surprisingly really industrious. When I visited they reminded me of Amish Craftsmen, by the care they took in each of their operations. Those four pieces took roughly three weeks and about thirty-five hours to finish. What really surprised my friends was that the kids turned there work into a business. They went out into the neighborhood and started collecting piece from their neighbors to finish. They did several chairs and a few tables, and made enough money for each to enjoy activities on vacation. Amish Furniture is born of Amish Tradition. A tradition is something passed on from parent to child, a lesson that will be remembered for a life time. Amish families instill great values in their children, through hard work and lots of love. By purchasing a piece of Amish furniture, like my friends did, your family will become a part of that tradition. Your family will have a lasting piece of furniture that will provide a memory of when parent and child worked together and lessons where learned. Visit www.stoveramishfurniture.com for unfinished furniture projects. Retractable Fountain Pens

Monday, January 14th, 2008

By Eddie Tobey Retractable fountain pens have a creative feature called the retractable nib. These retractable fountain pens have unique designs and are manufactured with ingenious technology. These pens have an elegant style and usually are of a larger size with a durable metal body with attractive gold and chrome accents. Some of the retractable fountain pens have a hand lacquered finish which makes them unique, giving each pen its own style. Retractable nibs are made from a variety of metals including gold and silver. Their unique feature is that they are available with gold and rhodium accents in various colors. These nibs on being damaged can be easily replaced with another of the same kind. These pens are usually either cartridge or convertor filled fountain pens and have very solid nibs. The nib which is the contact point between the pen and the paper is what can be retracted in such fountain pens. In the earlier pen models wherein the nibs were made of steel, the ink would corrode it easily and as a result to prevent this, nibs were either gold or Iridium plated. As gold is very soft and wears down too easily, iridium coated nibs are much preferred for retractable fountain pens. The bodies of such pens are subject to wear with steady use over time and as a result sturdy materials were used for the exteriors. The more expensive pens have bodies which are made of metals like Palladium or exotic woods, and are decorated with gold accents. The reservoir which is the place where the ink is stored is also special in such pens. Initially, reservoirs were made of flexible sacs that could be refilled but with time, they came to be replaced by glass or plastic cartridges. Fountain Pens provides detailed information on Fountain Pens, Fountain Pen Cases, Fountain Pen Refills, Fountain Pen History and more. Fountain Pens is affiliated with Fountain Pens. In Garden Design, Less Is More

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

By Robert Seigal “Less is more.” Mies Van der Rohe said it, and exemplified what he said with such architectural masterpieces as the Seagram Building in New York City. By “less is more” he meant the avoidance of gratuitous ornamentation. He believed in strong, simple design, with no decorative encumbrances to detract from the structural purity. His guiding principle was restraint, the kind of restraint that is critical to success in all the arts, including the art of garden design. Admirable though it may be as a concept, restraint is not always easy to achieve in practice. You must start, of course, with good structure, and add to this structure only those elements which are essential to its delineation. Above all, you must resist the temptation to add decorative elements simply because you happen to like them. Cute little frou-frous that don’t reinforce the core motif serve only to whittle away a garden’s integrity. To put it another way, if it doesn’t help, it hurts. Creative restraint is beautifully evident in the gardens of such masters as Russell Page and Jacques Wirtz. But can be carried to almost ungardenlike extremes in some of the new minimalist gardens. In practicing restraint, garden designers can take a cue from the acting profession. Good actors don’t overact-they leave something for the viewer’s imagination. “Spelling out” is not nearly as effective as triggering the image-making abilities of the viewers, inspiring them to develop their own creative insights. Dame Sybil Thorndike said it best. After watching a performance by the young John Geilgud, she remarked: “If he had cried less, the audience would have cried more.” To learn more about landscape design, to download free garden plans and see many beautiful gardens, visit http://www.landscape-design-garden-plans.comFor everything about water features, go to http://www.water-features-online.com. http://www.water-features-online.comhttp://www.landscape-design-garden-plans.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Robert_Seigal http://EzineArticles.com/?In-Garden-Design,-Less-Is-More&id=167464 buy xanax online mo prescription buy generic xanax buy xanax online delivered overnight buy-xanax-online-without-prescription

Acid Reflux - Tips For Taking Medication

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Clive_Chung] Clive Chung Maybe you have the best medication to stop acid reflux. However, it is not going to work if you do not take it persistently and properly. You should take your medication everyday as your daily mission. Here are some tips for making pill taking easier: Some medication must be taken with food or before the meal, especially with the histamine H2 blockers. When you feel hungry, try to think of your pills first, remind yourself to take medication as you prepare your food or prepare to sit down to eat. Arrange the time to sleep or to eat as your time to take your medication. Since you rarely skip meals and all of us have to sleep, these are very good times to take your medication Start to use a day planner, write in the times to take medication and keep handy a lost of medication that has to be taken and also write down the time. If you are particularly bad at remembering your medication, employ others to help you through phone calls or gentle reminders. Make sure your medication is visible. However, you should always use care with medication around children, stashing the bottles in a drawer or a cupboard leaves them out of sight. Set a day each month to refill your prescription, writing the number of the pharmacy directly on the calendar. Use a pillbox that you can carry with you. Some even come with vibrating or sound alarms to remind you when to take your medication. You can get away with this option for under ten dollars, but the cost with the bells and whistles, literally. If you are very rich and retired, buy a dispensing machine. These gadgets, running up to one thousand dollars, must be loaded and programmed to spit out the pills at the correct time each day. They require a little know-how, so if you have not figured out how to set the clock on your DVD player yet, it may not be a good option for you. Automatic Lawn Mowers

Monday, January 7th, 2008

By Lucy Bartlett If you find mowing your lawn tiresome and think that your time could be better spent elsewhere, there could be a solution. Have you ever considered an automatic or robotic lawn mower? Automatic lawnmowers can roam around your yard trimming your lawn while you are doing something much more exciting, it could be doing it while you are sleeping if you so wished! You can programme your mower to mow on specific days and at specific times so you never need to worry about remembering to switch it on. A robotic mower runs on a battery powered electric motor, which it can recharge automatically when it is running low, or whilst it is docking. It can mow up to nearly an acre on one charge. There are no cords or cables to look out for either. Find more info at www.lazymower.info To set up the area you wish to be mowed, you simply establish your perimeters using the supplied wire, more can be purchased separately if needed. The mower can sense objects such as trees and hedges and will operate around them. It can even operate on a slope or uneven ground. The automatic mower moves across the lawn in a crisscross pattern from different angles so it cuts the whole area that you have selected. The automatic mowers do not have collection boxes, instead they maintain the lawn by trimming the grass and leaving the cuttings as mulch, this adds vital nutrients to your lawn, thus making it much healthier. Not only is it good for your lawn, they are good for the environment, with no oils or gas to worry about they really cut down on pollution. The mowers safety features include child safety locks, anti-theft locks, and sensors that will steer the mower away from any object that might get in its path, such as a small child or pet. Mowers range in price upwards of a thousand US dollars, but considering the time and effort saved they can work out as a great investment. Lucy Bartlett is a proud contributing author. Body Jewelry Fashion Tends of Piercings

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

By Gail Leino While some people consider body jewelry to be a recent fashion trend, the truth is that body piercing dates back to ancient times. Body Jewelry was a way used by ancient civilizations to designate social class or standing. In addition, Body jewelry was also part of religious practices. The first recorded incidence of body jewelry via piercing comes from the evidence of nose rings recorded over 4,000 years ago in the Middle East. Further evidence is found within the verses of the bible where in Genesis there is reference to a gold nose ring. Nose rings in the Middle East and India are used to denote social standing and family wealth. Nose piercing appears to have came to America in the 1960s when the Eastern religion and enlightenment swept across the nation. Additional types of body jewelry have equally fascinating beginnings. Ear piercing is unarguably one of the most common forms of body jewelry. With the history of earrings going back as far as 3000 BC in parts of Asia, it appears that this form of body jewelry was used as an expression for both cultural and decorative reasons. Mummies dating back as far as five centuries have been noted to have piercings and body jewelry in their ears upon burial. These cultural adornments of body jewelry have lost some of the symbolic roots, and based upon current trends has become more of a fashion accessory. Tongue piercing is another common form of adornment and body jewelry. Tongue piercing was part of the ritual of many tribal societies including the Mayans, the Aztecs, the Tlingit and the Haida. The blood that was drawn during the piercing was thought to appease the gods. There are, of course, many other types of body jewelry that have their roots in ancient rituals and lifestyles. From nipples to much more personal locations, body jewelry is a current fashion trend with very old ancestry. In some cases today, body jewelry may be the result of seeking a way of honoring familiar heritage. For others, it is the attempt to find a way to make a personal statement.
